Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator anchor and commentator for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP), in Washington DC. She joined NBC News Washington two years after that as a general reporter. She began to cover the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent in 1988. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House correspondent in 1992. And the chief correspondent for foreign affairs at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV program Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. She was a member of an advisory panel during the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for excellence in journalism. In 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was a reporter at for the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Her coverage included a variety of significant stories, including the Iran-Contra controversy, budget and tax reform and also the issue of arms control. She traveled extensively with President Reagan to meet along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
